@stefan Thank you! Honestly I think servers shutting down is kind of inevitable although it's sad when it happens. Although the saddest one was when the admin passed away. Most of the time, though I think it just gets too expensive for the admins to run.

It's definitely interesting to compare the challenges of participating on commercial social media vs this more DIY, home-grown approach.

Definitely worth it, though.

@stefan real talk if :babaTootsite: went down though, it really wouldn't be the same platform anymore. I'd at least have a good cry about that before setting up a social inbox or something on my website.

@stefan I have another instance in mind already! Sometimes wonder if fosstodon.org fits my interests fully, but I'm a sentimental freak who can't leave my posts behind.

Some fediverse platforms do support post migration, hopefully we'll see that on Mastodon as well.
