In Fx120 we’re experimenting with Cookie Banner Blocking in Private windows for Firefox users in Germany. Firefox will auto-refuse cookies and dismiss annoying cookie banners for supported sites. We are looking to expand support for this soon.

Also in Fx120 we’re experimenting with URL Tracking Protection in Private windows for Firefox users in Germany. Firefox will remove non-essential URL query parameters that are often used to track users across the web. We hope to expand support for this too.

@ConnyDuck @FirefoxNightly Maybe because people inside of germany use it, but idk why they limit it to a country tho.

@luna @ConnyDuck @FirefoxNightly likely for testing a smaller group (so it does not break for all users if it breaks stuff), usually you can also enable it via about:config.

@FirefoxNightly reinventing the wheel, just bundle ublock origin and you're done
rugk

@piggo @FirefoxNightly hmm ublock does not rewrite URLs/remove tracking parameters?
Also it does not block cookie banners (there are other extensions for that), it just blocks the trackers. You often anyway have to click them away.

@FirefoxNightly out of mild curiosity: any specific reason why Germany? or was it just a random pick?

@RedstoneLP2 @FirefoxNightly If I had to guess, it could be because pretty much every website that is served in Germany will have these cookie banners due to GDPR protections. Can potentially be a good place to test a feature like this.

@l13u7anant @RedstoneLP2 @FirefoxNightly Those #cookie banners are common in *all* European member states. But my perception is that Germans are very privacy-conscious and Firefox has always been very popular in #Germany as well.

In Fx120 we’re experimenting with Geolocation Query Blocking in Private windows for Firefox users in Germany. Aah.. wait a minute....

rugk

@kupac @FirefoxNightly well why not, geolocation via IP is very simple but I assume they rather use the browser language or some system setting for getting the status

@FirefoxNightly THANK YOU! For the default being auto refuse, not auto accept. I've seen the addons that do that and i think they're all mad! Why would i EVER accept everything?

okapi

@catraxx @FirefoxNightly The auto-accept addons are likely mostly combined with a cookie auto-delete addon - some sites have issues with refusals. So the best course is to tell them you'll accept them but throw them away regardless.
