There's a lot of settings, things don't work as you expect, it's janky as hell, your admin could rage quit, you might get cut off from loads of friends at the whim of someone with a personal beef but anyway I love it! it's only just occurred to me this kind of thing is less than I don't like it but more that I think it adds character would it be nice if it were seamless and worked great? sure I guess, but also no probably absolutely not yes I have arch as my desktop OS @babe if things were working fine how would I submit 3 merge requests to fix them?? @babe It adds to the vibe of "this is a place for weird nerds to talk loads about shit they love and make computers do unholy things" @EveOfTheFuture I love the weird nerds, this place is goofy and janky, it's like late 90s IRC vibes @babe There's a ghibli film where there's a giant abandoned mansion where a bunch of nerds have taken it over and seized different sections for different nerd clubs and it's glorious and chaotic and I need that shit in my life They do also have turf wars so that matches too @babe the way i see it the more of a barely-functioning mess it is the less attractive it is to huge tech corporations   @babe honestly, this was my experience of twitter, so 🤷♂️ At least here you can chose your loon, be your own loon or switch loon as you please.  @babe But that happens on the giant silos, less often, just hurts millions of people all at once, instead of a steady minor irritation. Fediverse: More fun than a rusty slide!  This is still more stable than commercial social media really is, we just haven't had a MySpace or G+ incident lately |
