@AmyZenunim This sounds like an April Fools joke that got out either too late or too early

shift-jis art depicting a dog

@AmyZenunim oh thats not at all what i thought that feature did and so much worse than anything i could have imagined

@AmyZenunim never in my life I had an urge to do "red" only things today.

Who is this for? Lizards?
★ Amy Star ★ :verified:

the implication is that if I select Red, I will no longer see any outdoors/camping youtubers, because there's too much Green in their videos?

do creators have access to these metrics? what if one colour dominates all the others?? does that mean that suddenly all of youtube will be shifted over to that colour to stay competitive? will all videos suddenly become bright blood red???

who fucking wants this?? who does this serve??? and why would you not explain the implications to your users in any kind of informed way????

@AmyZenunim I have no idea if this is what happened, but this very much feel like a "helpful" suggestion from some executive fungus that can't tell his own head from his arse but because he's in charge, they have to do what he says so he can feel like he contributed something.

@AmyZenunim for the record:
lifehacker.com/youtube-lets-yo

not that it gives any reasoning as to why this is even a bloody thing. This is weird and stupid and I'm assuming something far more banally evil is afoot here and I hate it already.

@AmyZenunim remember when all movies from like 2000-2010 were orange and teal? This thing doesn't even support secondary colours soooo

lol

@AmyZenunim I actually kind of like this because it is such a completely nonsensical feature

it's better than finding a new way to harvest our data anyway

@AmyZenunim@unstable.systems the only plausible explanation is that project managers at Google get bonuses based on "innovation". That's why they introduce all this useless crap and constantly break products that are perfectly functional (I'm looking at you, Google Maps).

@AmyZenunim

That’s interesting, but prob not usable :blobcatthinkowo:

@AmyZenunim users: stop making drastic changes to the UI
creators: please support us, the people actually making your platform worth a look
YouTube: likes are now florps, you can sort your homepage by color, wow!

Maddy

@AmyZenunim idk what y'all are complaining about, i'm sick and tired of seeing blue on the TL. cursed. bad vibes.

now, green, that... that is the color of dreams, of life itself. i don't want to see anything more than 50nm from the sacred wavelength or else i will fly into a rage and email YouTube 100 times

@AmyZenunim For the sort of person who chooses the contents of their bookshelves to match the colour of the room?

bapt :smug:

@AmyZenunim I mean, some features are a bit niche… but I cannot for the life of me figure out why anyone would ever want this

moh

@AmyZenunim maybe this is YouTube's first step into creating a feeling for the consumer that they are an "artist" for simply curating the content they see. Spotify, for example, leans really heavily into that. filtering by color is an arbitrary restriction that feels artistic in a way.

@AmyZenunim what in the name of the absolute and utter *FUCK* is this junk
