We are looking for better UX ideas on how to tell our new users about OpenStreetMap and teach them to add/edit map data in osm.org instead of complaining to us. Please share your thoughts in this Github issue: github.com/organicmaps/organic

@organicmaps i'd suggest updating this screen to something like this:

> [Beautiful new icon with ? on a map]
> We haven't found a location matching this name.
> Our app uses community driven data from OpenStreetMap project, and you can add missing place after you log in with osm account
> Read more about adding new place here ...

@partizan that‘s the idea. There was an issue about it. But people don’t read long text :) so it should be very clear and succinct.

partizan

@organicmaps Btw, where are people complaining to you about missing data? Maybe info should be added somewhere in that area

@partizan check our existing UX issues on Github to see the full picture.

@organicmaps you can start by not asking for ideas on GitHub because newer users can’t sign up and post public without GitHub asking for more personal information about you.

Organic Maps

@firecat we need to collect and process ideas in one place. As we‘re a small team, there’s not enough resources to do it in a different way. Your donations may change the approach ;-)

DELETED

@organicmaps people can email you, there is no github requirement for that

Organic Maps

@firecat of course. But then we need to update github issues ourselves. Instead of fixing bugs or introducing new features ;-)
Also Github discussions have a lot of context. It would be great if people read it and understand the full picture before suggesting something.

DELETED

@organicmaps the main problem is GitHub doesn’t allow public access and requires a account with very personal details of their life. You won’t be getting any feedback from normal people and high level threats from people.

@organicmaps how long does it take for my change on openstreetmaps to get to your app?

Andrew Wedlake

@organicmaps I made a street name correction to OSM and the correction was quickly picked up by both Google and Apple. So I definitely see the value with this.

I could see a process of defining a type of change better (“add” verses “correct”), and that the change is in fact something that will be seen globally and not just on our own device. Seems subtle, but a don’t think folks understand how much they can really contribute to OSM.

@adventure_tense true. We‘re trying to solve the OSM education task )

@organicmaps one of these on every screen that might have results? (pardon my ignorance if app already does)

An exclamation point in a circle plus the text "See an Error?"
Dave Ackley

@organicmaps for sure. anything from it's a link to a explanation page on up. key is the affordance is already there right when the user pain occurs.

Organic Maps

@livcomp yep! How to detect if user is looking on the map and doesn’t see something expected?

Dave Ackley

@organicmaps Don't have to! Keep a happy little 'See an error?' floating in some corner, so it's Already On Screen when the pain occurs.

Andrew Wedlake

@organicmaps This would be a great question to post on the Patreon site too.
