A much-requested feature added to Mastodon 4.2.0 is the ability to follow accounts in Lists while hiding them from your Home timeline. To do this: 1. Log into your server's website (Note that this hides the chosen list's entire contents from Home.) 17 comments

Yes, your Lists are only visible to you. They're inteded as themed mini-timelines. The List creation interface is a bit fiddly, but I've done a guide to using it at https://fedi.tips/how-to-use-the-lists-feature-on-mastodon/

You have to follow an account to add it to a list, but you can hide that list's posts from Home using the above method. (The reason for requiring follows is to let people remove themselves from people's lists by blocking them. There were safety concerns about lists on Twitter being used by trolls to target victims.)

@feditips I thought this was available before 4.2.0? I've used this feature for a while now. The great thing about this is that if you put everyone you follow in a list, you can make your Home timeline dedicated to just followed hashtags which is incredibly helpful. I wish there was a timeline just for followed hashtags and their posts, but putting everyone in a list and hiding it from Home is a good alternative.

Lists has been available for several years, but version 4.2.0 allows you to hide lists from Home. (Your server may have been running the preview version of 4.2.0 if you've already seen the Home-hiding feature there.)

Yeah, it's a totally different feature. Lists are like mini-timelines where you can choose which accounts appear on them. They're private, only you see them. For example some people make news lists, which are entirely accounts from news sources. There's a guide to using Lists on Mastodon here: https://fedi.tips/how-to-use-the-lists-feature-on-mastodon/

Unfortunately it isn't currently possible, but it would be a great feature. If you're comfortable using Github, you can vote for hashtags on lists by giving a thumbs up at https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/7692

@feditips I haven't played around with lists at all, but this makes me want to. Are lists private?
