While it may seem a bit odd that @pixelfed supports text-only posts in home feeds in the form of reblogs, I think it's a good compromise.

You can also opt to only see photo/video reblogs, or hide reblogs all together

We're not planning on adding text-only post creation on @pixelfed.

Mastodon, Misskey, Firefish and others do a better job at microblogging.

Groups will allow you to create text-only posts, but those won't appear on your profile.

@dansup @pixelfed I think that's the right decision. Pixelfed is made for posting pictures after all.

I think of pixelfed as an alternative to IG: a way to share visuals (pictures and short videos). I don't think it should become a do-it-all social network.

IMHO it should follow the Unix way: do only one thing and do it as good as possible.

So not having text-only posts is the right decision.
