As much as I'd love to participate in FediForum, I still struggle with imposter syndrome

I know I'm doing stuff, but because it's mostly PHP I can't help but feel like everyone still sees @pixelfed and everything else I do as a joke

So glad to see all the interesting FediForum presentations, and hope that one day, maybe I can present too! #fediForum

@dansup @pixelfed even more of a reason to appear there and show people that you managed to build it in PHP even, which so many people consider unfit for whatever reason.

PHP hate in 2023 is unreasonable, because people still think of it from the 5.4 days.

@dansup @pixelfed No need to feel like that. Pixelfed is a great piece of software and the fact you are building it by yourself is no minor feat. Also there is nothing wrong with PHP, personal preferences of programming languages / paradigms and frameworks will always be there. The user in the end does not, and should not care about it.

@dansup @pixelfed wanna hear some truth? Your work is so impressive it might give other people imposter syndrome.

@dansup @pixelfed nah mate - what you're doing is awesome. And PHP powers 80% of the web.
I'd love to see your talk.

:PUA: Shlee fucked around and

@dansup @pixelfed You suffer from too much ambition.

Most of the people speaking will never actually ship anything. Most of them will never have the real world reach of one of your releases.

You need to be there to tell them your roadmap, your future plans, and tell them where the ball is going to be in the future.

Don't listen to the language snobs. The right language for the job is almost always the one which the dev(s) is(/are) familiar with.
You've built amazing things with real impact, which is more than most can say.

As my old math teacher said, "you can't argue with success", or the classic "if it's stupid but works, it isn't stupid".

@dansup @pixelfed What? You do a hell of a job! A very nice product, with a very nice interface. I don't think #pixelfed lacks much compared to other #fediverse products.

Keep on the good work! 💪

@dansup I admire you so much. I even said so recently when talking with the NLnet folks. Your attitude, ideas, and the amount of quality code you ship is inspiring as I do my own my fedi work. We all have something to teach others. We all have something to learn from others. Don’t let fear stop you from connecting more with a group of people who want to support people like you and projects like yours. If anything, come to let us tell you over video chat. Be well, buddy!

@dansup @pixelfed Pixelfed is one of the very best things to have happened in the #fediverse.

@dansup @pixelfed I'd be happy to co-present, if that'd help?

@dansup @pixelfed hey it's ok there'll be more of them (and special topics sessions of the CG for testing and special sessions for export/import formats and and and...)

@dansup Dude! I was attending and I'm a nobody who's not even a programmer, who hasn't shipped anything. (i'm just a fediverse enthusiast person!) 😅 You've made like 5 entire products!!! You're way too hard on yourself!

Anyway, I actually hoped to see you there. I hope you'll be there next time! 😄 There were some great conversations about moderation, which I'm sure you would have enjoyed!

@dansup @pixelfed sidenote PHP is probably my native language if i'm being honest
