Want to know what a real dystopian corporate cyberpunk ecosystem looks like? Here, welcome to Moscow.

While it is also a dystopian totalitarian cyberpunk city, with absurdly wide centralized face-recognition-powered CCTV coverage actively used for prosecution, it is not the focus of our today's post.

You can rent an apartment using Yandex.Rent (Yandex.Realty is also a thing if you are not a fan of subscription service for an apartment), and if you pay with Yandex.Bank card you get 3% cashback in Yandex.Points. What can you spend Yandex.Points on?

- Get a ride with Yandex.Taxi (the only viable competitor, Uber, was acquired and now operated by Yandex)
- Send something with Yandex. Delivery
- Buy literally anything on Yandex.Market
- Get groceries from Yandex.Lavka
- Get food from restaurants delivered with Yandex.Eats (the only viable competitor, Delivery Club, was acquired and now operated by Yandex)
- Rent a car (or an electric kickscooter) from Yandex.Drive
- Have your own car? You can get fuel, or charge it (if you have an electric vehicle) using Yandex.Fuel (btw you can also buy a car on Yandex' Auto.ru)
- Get some tickets to events on Yandex.Afisha
- Traveling? Get tickets and a hotel room on Yandex.Travel.

Also, did you know they have a virtual currency, ✨. You can get ✨ for using all things listed above, and also for listening to the music on Yandex.Music and watching movies on Kinopoisk (acquired by Yandex). You can convert ✨ to coupons, for example, to get a discount on taxi ride.

How about the classic ecosystem services? Well, they got you covered. Yandex Search, Yandex.Mail, Yandex.Disk, Yandex.Telemost and others are here. And if you need a smart home, the virtual assistant Yandex Alice will happily spy on you.

Want to get somewhere? Yandex.Navigator will help you, and show ads along the way. Want to use public transit? Ah, Yandex.Maps, Yandex.Metro, Yandex.Transport, Yandex.Timetables will help you. Want a very precise forecast for your street? Yandex.Weather knows it.

You can also get education on Yandex.Practicum, Yandex.Academy, Yandex.Tutor and Yandex' School of Data Analysis. And yes, you can pay with Yandex.Pay not only on Yandex. There are also installment plans available with Yandex.Split.

And yes, they are hiring. As a bonus, you will get a free smart speaker and the Yandex.Plus subscription.

this is so cursed

@brawaru I guess, last time I was in their HQ, there were cute boys.

MrClon

@brawaru IDK, but two years ago there as Yandex.Durgs that sell weed, MDMA, amphetamine and cocaine on one dark web marketplace (:

Тр3тий Сергеевич

@inex Same goes for Sber (formerly, Sberbank), the largest bank in the country.

The interesting thing is that prior the war they have been heavily investing in machine learning. They trained GPT-2 model on Russian text corpus, which is neat, i.m.o.

Too bad they oughta be decommissioned to cover either war effort or reparations.

@inex

There's a lot going on.

Yandex is heavily funded by US and Dutch Investment Fonds (just to make clear who also profits from the corporate cyberpunk dystopy).

One of the founders and currently main owners of Yandex emigrated to Israel and criticized the war.
Now there is a plan to separate the Russian business from the international (Dutch), by selling 51% to Russian Oligarchs, to decrease the probability for sanctions while retaining the remaining 49%.

@earthworm looking at what happened to Mail.Ru/VK after the state oligarchy acquired them, this will be very very sad.

The Real Rive™ 🐀 :verified:

@earthworm @inex Very curious that the co-founder of Yandex only started speaking out against the war after the divestment of the international half of the company and the installment of Kudrin, a Putin bureaucrat and former Russian finance minister, as the CEO of the company. All after Yandex complied with every request from Kremlin to censor their news product, give out their users' info to the government w/o due process.

Almost as if the founder immigrated to Israel and spoke out against the war only to protect his wealth and to whitewash his Kremlin ties.

@rive @earthworm @inex "where have you been for eight years" but the other way around

Natty :butterflyN:

@inex@pony.social What the fuck

Every day we're closer to BnL being real

But I didn't expect it to be Yandex out of all things

DELETED

@inex wait so the Russians have reverted back to the Soviet single-provider command economy, only it's now all run through an app?

Inex Code

@danjac no, it feels like a very wrong conclusion. There are different providers available for you, and you are mostly free to choose between at least 3 big corpos and probably small local providers in every field. There are somewhat 5 big ecosystems competing right now, some are from tech giants (like Yandex, VK) others from banks (like Sber), and mobile ISPs trying to get some pie too (like MTS). I've just described probably the biggest and most diverse one.

@inex it's not monopoly, it's *ecosystem* lol

@inex And the worst thing is I can hardly tell if it's truth or satire.

If the first, then scary shit.
If the second - good job.

@agturcz it took me an hour to write this post: collecting English names of the services, fact-checking everything and browsing Yandex' interfaces.

@inex

Dystopian would be if you had no alternatives. You do, you said it yourself:

I'd wager London has more CCTV than Moscow.

Inex Code

@0xDEADBEEF probably we just have different takes on what dystopian means, and that's okay. I'm just amazed by the scale of this ecosystem and how you can use it in any aspect of your life.

Один раз покупал на Яша.Маркете. И иногда вызывал такси по телефону. КиноПоиск какая-то фигня, отписался.
Вот что правда очень незаменимо, это Карты, из-за их актуальности и статистики пробок.
