@calebjasik @soatok @tarajdactyl If you update the plugin to the latest version, this will be fixed. Sorry about that! @soatok @stefan @tarajdactyl yup soatok.blog shows me the modal and the close button works now π thx now to sort out why my ad blocker is half baked :ablobspin: @calebjasik @soatok @tarajdactyl You still see this with an ad-blocker? Mind sharing which one you use? @calebjasik @soatok @tarajdactyl Right here: https://github.com/stefanbohacek/detect-missing-adblocker/blob/master/ftf-detect-missing-adblocker.php#L75 Some more relevant code: https://github.com/stefanbohacek/detect-missing-adblocker/blob/master/src/scripts/detect.js https://github.com/stefanbohacek/detect-missing-adblocker/blob/master/src/styles/nativeads.js.scss And here is the demo this is all based on: https://retr0.id/stuff/ublock_test.html @stefan @soatok @tarajdactyl hmm thx in good news i see no ads on the original demo π§ @calebjasik @soatok @tarajdactyl Very interesting. Thank you for checking, I will have a look to see what I missed. @stefan FWIW, also misfires with uBlock Origin on Firefox on Android. @fero @tarajdactyl @stefan https://github.com/stefanbohacek/detect-missing-adblocker/tree/master/src/scripts the code isn't very heavy if you have a non-WP site too @soatok It seems a little overzealous, but I appreciate the intent! (Firefox 116.3.0 on Android 13/LineageOS 20 with uBlock Origin 1.51.0, reset to default then updated filter lists.) @tarajdactyl @stefan How does one code that into a site because I LOVE that! @literalgrill @tarajdactyl Right now this exists as a WordPress plugin, but I will look into making a non-WordPress version: @stefan @literalgrill @tarajdactyl I would love this! in related news, i just discovered that you can install ad blocker plugins to mobile Firefox now. IDK how i missed that. how many years have i been suffering ads on mobile unnecessarily!??!?? @tarajdactyl I couldnβt find anything about this with a quick search. Can you direct me to instructions on how to do that? @reay (on Android) open Firefox; click three dots in the bottom right corner. Click 'Add-ons'. click "Add-on manager". It will show currently installed add ons and recommended add-ons. i use uBlock Origin. @reay ahhh and apparently it's Android only, at least for now; no ios π @reay @tarajdactyl If you just go to settings and click add-ons, uBlock Origin is available, on Android at least. I think on iPhone everything is still essentially just a skin for Safari so they have less ability to add their own features. @DelilahTech that makes me feel better lol. i still had it in my head that none of the mobile browsers support plugins. still surprised i missed it! It's definitely not new. There was like a two month period in 2020 when Firefox for Android was going through a huge rewrite and no add-ons were available, but besides that Firefox for Android always supported adblocks. 5+ years for sure, maybe 10. @DelilahTech @tarajdactyl @tarajdactyl @brianary @tarajdactyl it will be the case before the end of the year https://www.theverge.com/2023/8/14/23831094/firefox-android-open-extension-support @tarajdactyl This is actually a brand new feature. Thanks for the reminder, I gotta git me some of that goodness.... (I saw the announcement on the _desktop_ update....) @tarajdactyl fun fact: you can very easily block ads systemwide on a dns level on all android phones with android 9 or up. takes a single change in the system settings, no apps to install or anything, and pretty much all ads are gone immediately @stella@tech.lgbt @tarajdactyl@tech.lgbt this is good but it's not perfect, you can't do cosmetic filtering which adblock extensions can do, so it's best to use both @stella @tarajdactyl the specific setting is called private dns, and requires specifying a dns over tls that blocks ads for that, such as dns.adguard-dns.com for iOS, there's this: https://dns.notjakob.com/ @tarajdactyl recently found out that some nice VPN (mullvad )which is easily usable on Android can even filter ads (or more) for the whole system. Its literally a toggle in the settings and gone are ads in every app @tarajdactyl @stefan I asked my friends if I should put this on my site. They thought it was obnoxious and had to much of a MOM vibe. @tarajdactyl @stefan I should add something like this to my website once I get the motivation to get it back up. This is great. @tarajdactyl @stefan @tarajdactyl @stefan this reminds me of those whitehats in the early 2000s writing viri to patch the holes they exploited! @tarajdactyl @stefan Interesting! Funnily enough I use Privacy Badger (from @eff ) which is technically not an adblocker (but blocks most ads because they cross script). And I use Firefox (with Enhanced Tracking Protection) but your site still advises me an adblocker. Do I need another one? @tarajdactyl @stefan please just don't make it a modal, we have enought of that everywhere π @tarajdactyl @stefan Shouldn't a good adblocker be transparent and therefore undetectable for the website? @tarajdactyl @stefan and in case someone is looking for more information with an adblocker enabled, check his blog post: https://stefanbohacek.com/project/detect-missing-adblocker-wordpress-plugin/ :) Thanks @stefan, even when I see no Popup ;) this is a great one! Is it possible to extend it to warn about #WEI-Browsers? @tarajdactyl @stefan tempted to put this on my website, only without any detection. hard-coded in so it'll always appear @tarajdactyl @stefan "Click on this ad to stop ads"? - this sort of scam has been around forever. @tarajdactyl @stefan nice idea! I got the pop-up when accessing from my pi-hole protected network. |
@tarajdactyl @stefan its so beautiful
