Also, we cannot rely on centralized archival sites for much longer. This is another #Fediverse service opportunity with lots of technical overlap with a decentralized CDN (Content Delivery Network) that would be useful for ALL Fediverse services dealing with large media files (like Peertube or Pixelfed or others, even micro-blogging attachments).

Agreed.

As an aside, I saw neat twist on that aphorism:

> History is written by the literate

Which I like quite a lot. It's straightforward to connect that to the OG aphorism as victors get the privilege that affords the literacy & luxury of time to write the histories.

Edit to add: but it doesn't feel as absolute and closed off as the OG statement; it feels like it includes a glimmer of hope for elloquency in the opposition / resistance to change minds so long as we put in the effort to write the counter narrative.

More to your point: I'm also reminded of the advice from Andrea Chalupa and Sarah Kendzior (relaying advice from people living through / in regimes that are more authoritarian than our current baseline) about journaling and/or keeping record so that you can keep grounded in the truth as the regime disappears information or gradually corrupts the historical record.
