@searls

For my #blind friends:
The image shows a gray chat interface (could guess it's facetime)
The user shows as "Apple" and replied: check in to this with you and I'm confident with what we discussed today you will be good to go! Thanks for contacting Apple!

Please do not reply this message to avoid starting a new interaction.

@Andres @searls This is Apple’s Messages for Business experience for chat support etc. It’s within the regular iOS Messages.app, but with a branded experience.

If you want a more verbose signature, you're welcome to borrow mine and edit it to meet your needs.
"This is a confidential communication between myself, yourself or organization, and any of the numerous intelligence agencies who, at this very moment, are no doubt noting the contents of this missive and will, at some future date, finally get around to analyzing it and realizing that nothing of importance whatsoever is contained herein.”

@Jack πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ that’s longer than most emails that I need to send out haha! I’m a fan.

@searls surely they meant

Not reply message avoid new interaction.

Seems there were some other words they forgot to leave out.

TechyDad

@searls I won't reply to this in order to avoid starting a new interaction.

Whoops!

@searls It's right up there with DNA's "Please do not press this button again."

@searls earnest question from a non-native englisch speaker: is this even proper englisch? Don’t you β€žreply toβ€œ a message? πŸ€”

Chris Hopkins

@appfrosch @searls no. At the very least it should be "please do not reply to this message". However given the farcical request in the message, I'm not sure I understand their intent well enough to be sure I'm fixing it correctly.

Herzleid

@appfrosch Yes, the missing "to" after "reply" is a mistake. πŸ™‚

@searls how do I enable this? Asking for a friend.

@searls I'm a big fan of how Sherman closed his final letter to Hood outside Atlanta:

"This is the conclusion of our correspondence, which I did not begin, and terminate with satisfaction."

David Wayne

@searls years ago I had a credit agency call me and when we were done speaking, they told me that β€œI” had to hang up because they were not allowed to terminate the call. Hours later, I removed them from mute and hung up!

Justin Searls

@dwcloudcutter this is also customary in Japan. It's considered rude to hang up so most folks in (civil, customer) service roles will not hang up until you do

Go Up
