What do you want your money to look like?

€ Euro banknotes are getting a new look! The time has come to choose the theme for their future design, and we want YOU to have a say. Which theme should be selected?

📅 Complete the survey on #FutureBanknotes by 31 August! → survey.ecb.europa.eu/euro-bank

Visual with a hand holding a 5 euro bill. There is an upward arrow in which a bird appears and next to it an olive leaf. Also a downward arrow with the figure of a statue. In the visual you can read Future Euro bancknotes - select theme, and the flag of the EU in the lower left corner.

@EU_Commission What do you want your money to look like or how do you want your money to look. PS do you need any editors for your social media accounts? 😉

@EU_Commission 🤔 hmmm...
actually it's not much how they look than how they are distributed in the first place that are our citizen concerns
could we also look at a "Quantitative Easing for Citizen" or other UBI instead of reflooding banks f.ex. ? then we would care about what's on the notes imho

Mark Vanderbeeken

@EU_Commission A rather banal survey. Great banknotes also have great designs and inspire through that. Think of the Swiss ones. Or the old Dutch Guilder ones. The current EU banknotes are bland and boring. Design by committee. And this somehow affects people’s perception of the institutions too.

@EU_Commission est ce que vous pensez que nous sommes complètement cons ? (Je veux choisir la fiscalité appliquée aux plus hautes revenus pas le dessin sur du papier-monnaie !)

@Le_M_Poireau @EU_Commission

@EU_Commission art is great but is bound to leave some countries unrepresented. But i feel like body parts like hands or mouths would just look ugly.

Then again what does my opinion matter when i barely use cash

Arkitu

@EU_Commission It's cool that we can give our opinion on this subject

@EU_Commission Hey ! This is propaganda : I am European and I'm fully aware that UE is the realm of the biggest bunch that exploited their fellow humans to get rich.

If we want to better ourselves we should begin by recognizing the wrongdoings of UE : anti-labour practice, autoritarism (Napoléon, Mussolini, Hitler), colonialism, slave trade, colonisation, ongoing genocides of foreign first nations (wayana people in Guyana), ecocides by greed ... and remind it on banknotes.

Lac Meod

@EU_Commission I want a 5 € banknotes about the death of the economical and war refugees that die by the thousands trying to better their life joining UE.
I want to see a map of Europa with barbed wires at its borders and people drowning trying to get in.

Lac Meod

@EU_Commission I want a 10€ banknote with a castle of wealthy in the middle, slums around, and walls looking like Sauron's realm while random bunches are slaughtered at the borders.

UE is experiencing growing social inequalities triggered by UE directives.

UE should be PROUD of bringing us back to feudalism and not pretending to be about freedom of the masses.

Lac Meod

@EU_Commission
I want 20€ banknotes with child/enslaved labour in a remote dictature to remind our wealth is based on unfair trade negotiations with other Nations that hurts masses here and their.
A 50€ banknote about industrialisation and global warming/ecocide ...
A 100€ about tax evasion and corruption required to sell our weapons

Lac Meod

@EU_Commission I want a 1000€ bill that remind that such banknotes are an intended vehicle for easing money laundering, tax evasion, corruptions with an inspirational quote like « in fraud we trust ».

@LaFoulqueDuVexin @EU_Commission

Ah, yes, who could forget European Council President Napoleon and Transport Commissioner Mussolini.

Seriously though, why are the most "lunaires" responses to this coming from French accounts? I know French media is one of the worst in Europe for EU coverage, but what do they teach you in school about what the EU is and isn't, what powers it has and who runs it (our national governments) etc. ?? 😬

Catarina :mastodon_oops:

@EU_Commission I want images of wildfires and people freezing in winter, to remind politicians they must do better to fight climate change!

Veza85UE

@EU_Commission other countries have already done the bird thing, it's pretty but unoriginal.

My two proposals:

1. European values: embodied by women like #SophieScholl #MargaKlompé #SimoneVeil #SofiaCorradi

(Bit odd that for all the publicity you guys get out of #Erasmus you almost never mention the woman who created it against fierce opposition from member states governments who were and continue to be The Worst...)

Pictures of Sophie Scholl, Magda Klompé, Simone Veil, Sofia Corradi.

Proposal 2: #Natura2000/LIFE Programme

I'm not saying we'd have THE cutest banknote on the planet by putting the rescued-thanks-to-the-EU #IberianLynx on our 20s, but...

@EU_Commission
If this toot represents how our money is used, I would rather smaller amounts for EU officials...

David Pilný

@EU_Commission it’s quite funny that the survey should be about including all the eu citizens in the decision process, supposedly every country matters but in the end, where I was supposed to pick my country, I was not able to find it. There were only like 10-15 countries to choose from and the option "Other EU country" which is honestly a bit insulting.

David Pilný

@EU_Commission I am a big fan of the EU, I really liked this survey as well the ideas for the new Euro bank notes, however, I was really disappointed in the end where I couldn’t pick my country as if it doesn’t matter. I am a bit worried that when the new bank notes are designed, their design will supposedly represent Europe as a whole but actually will focus only on a handful of countries and people in the rest of Europe find it disheartening and disappointing

juliette 🌻

@EU_Commission I was meh about most of these until I got to the birds. Birds!!!

I hope if this wins, the 500 euro banknote features the bird most common in all European capitals: the humble pigeon. You can call it a dove for marketing purposes.

Seth Pilgrim

@juliette same here ! I was like “this is OK” “this might work” and then “yay birds !”

I felt like any of the other options were really inclusive to all of Europe anyway

@EU_Commission

Veza85UE

@juliette @EU_Commission Yes! Include their messed up feet with twisted/missing digits, for authenticity. I'm anti-birdeuros, but this could sway me.
