@catsalad *jealous*

I want to sort them and deep-dive into them...

Cuz I may need some DDR2-FBDIMMs and stuff...

@kkarhan @catsalad When I was a kid, a friend of my dad worked at TI. He would bring me home their "leftovers" (scraps), so I always had chips, boards, and various parts and wires in boxes in my room. I loved it, and would spend hours at a time just looking at them to try and understand them, or plugging them in together in various ways to see if I could get them to work. That evolved into learning a bit about electronics and circuits, and trying to build my own. When I eventually realized I was bad at hardware, I segued into programming, and that's where I've been ever since. So seeing pictures like this really brings back some warm childhood memories. :)

@jerry @catsalad

I still have nightmares with fitting ZIP memory chips. DIMMs and SIMS were such an improvement 🙂🤷‍♂️

Marius Biebel

@catsalad how much memory do you guess is this in total? Could be super old and all together on 100 GB could be 100 TB 😅

@catsalad 🎶Memory, all alone in the moonlight 🎵

@catsalad I'm gonna steal that and sell them mysterious vendor style and become a millionaire selling memory sticks with weird stuff on em.

@catsalad
I remember the days of upgrading machines to 32 MB of RAM.

@catsalad When I worked at #Micron the tongue-in-cheek name for the empty encapsulation buckets where we would discard broken or test wafers or chips was called the...

Bit Bucket 🤣

So this is maybe the bit box?

#Alt4You photograph of a large, open box filled with computer memory modules of various types.

@catsalad I remember when those were so treasured. A customer would come in for an upgrade, and we'd fight over who got to keep the old RAM.

@catsalad I'm pretty sure this actually is salad if you're a protogen.

@catsalad attention, geeks! "Ram Disk" IS NOT an installation procedure!

@catsalad @bambinod Is this what they call the "Rowhammer attack"?

@catsalad
While you're BSin', back when I was working mini mainframes, our preferred method for seating cards (including RAM) involved the use of a short length of 2x4 placed against the board edge (24"x24" boards) and striking the wood with a mallet or the palm of the hand.

DELETED

@catsalad I have absolutely no memory of that.

@catsalad

@catsalad

I find it hard to remember what those are good for. Memory's gone bad, I think. 😢

Badscrew

@catsalad that’s a lot of past pride and glory.

Actually sad :(
