Me: "It's hard to want to share WIP art because there are too many imperfect bits."

Also me: "It's hard to want to share finished art because there are too many imperfect bits."

Everytime I'm about to share a drawing, my eye catches on something that keeps me from sharing it. Every time.

Might be because I go outside of myself for a moment when I'm about to share something, pretending I'm someone seeing it for the first time, and seeing it with those eyes makes me find all kinds of faults.

'Outside me' is critical AF :angy:

@rek this seems like a great attribute to have for self-critique and improvement. I tend to have a low bar and share things that are even marginally what I was aiming for.

@tendigits Yea it helps sometimes, it can make the art better, but it can also keep from posting anything ever :/.

Low bar sounds pretty good to me.

It's silly overall though, because what I'm working on right now will likely stay super rough (thats just how i draw for that project). It'll never be perfect, nor should it need to be.

@rek this must be a case of “the grass is always greener on the other side”

Dammit Rek, just share the damn drawing :eccehomo:

Lizbeth

@rek you can do it! :) Say fuck off to the hypercritical super ego

@ritualdust It's shockingly loud for something only I can hear :P.

FINE fine. Here's the beast, well... one of 17.

This is part of a 17 page comic sequence, and it is not finished (promise I'm not being picky, its not done, there are frames/text/details missing).

That first toot happened because I was about to share this WIP.

This is just scanned pencil art, I decided to try not inking things for a while. I missed the look, feel... overall messiness of pencil.

a work in progress comic page. Hakazi is fighting a big dude and getting his butt kicked, and Dae, who had been running away, has to turn back to help him.

@rek I’m quite certain that your outside eyes are much more critical than our actual outside eyes would be.

@rek I'll say this explicitly because I know sometimes it helps:

I would very much enjoy seeing WIP work. And also finished work with imperfections! Especially whatever thing prompted you to post this.

R E K

@sam It's silly because I like to see others share WIP work too XD...

@rek every time I show anyone my art I immediately see it completely differently. All the more reason to share early and share often.
