People keep telling me that mastodon is super complicated, especially the principle of following people from other instances. @Tiwy57 i get that; “follow from my instance” should be an easier thing. i keep having to put it in the search bar or use functionality through a third party app @chirpbirb @Tiwy57 tbh, that's why extensions like fediact popped up for web browsing >.> @Nomaxice @chirpbirb @Tiwy57 I bet then their argument becomes "why do I have to use an extension for basic functionality" To which I'd reply "The same is true for the bird and there it's considered essential to make the damn thing pleasant and usable in the first place" @SebinNyshkim @Nomaxice @Tiwy57 nobody complained about “reddit enhancement suite” and i couldn’t go a day without hearing a redditor tell someone to use it lmfao @chirpbirb @Nomaxice @Tiwy57 There's also me using an adblocker to hide the dreadful "Trends" section because it's all rage bait and sadness. Without that I get exhausted within minutes of even looking what's trending @SebinNyshkim @chirpbirb @Nomaxice @Tiwy57 I had to use Control Panel for Twitter to get rid of garbage and have the chronological TL on that place. No one batted an eye when I said I was using that. People get weird about extensions for stuff they're not familiar with though. Like it's not an uncommon thing, you're just getting antsy over needing something extra for something new. @KingDeadWolf @chirpbirb @Nomaxice @Tiwy57 Unlike with corporate social media where they'll just do as they please and you as a user just have to hope and pray they're gonna be implementing something that pleases you, you can actually go to the developers and ask for features. I just can't fathom how that's like not a huge benefit in people's minds? You can influence where all this is going. Like it's right there, you don't have to suffer for a minute or more with crap you don't want to see. Yeah, considering at the time it wasn't owned by twitter. I get though yeah, it's not perfect, it's not super duper polished with millions of $ invested but... Yeah. I only have one, but use it to avoid needing to paste back into my instance here for stuff. @KingDeadWolf @chirpbirb @Tiwy57 There's the name! @Nomaxice @chirpbirb @Tiwy57 The only real annoyance I've seen is having to turn off rich link previews cause it was just flooding threads if links showed up a few times. That and turning off alt text being displayed under images was all I adjusted. @Nomaxice @Tiwy57 @chirpbirb I addded my instance's search URL to Firefox's search engines. Now I just drag a link to the search bar, click the correct icon (which is admittedly still slightly annoying), and it's done :)
 @chirpbirb I mean, I'm severely disappointed that my personal feed is half people I don't even follow, and it's not retweets. Put that shit back on the Federated timeline, please. @chirpbirb I'll have to look. I've already had to mute some random people for uncensored porn or fetish content or something else that wasn't getting caught in my filters.  I think these federated social media things should have front-end separate from back-end. It's like if postfix and exim each came with their own built-in, slightly cronky webmail. That would just be weird.
@chirpbirb At least it's not a laggy piece of shit like most modern websites are. Javascript was a mistake. @chirpbirb @terry_fox @chirpbirb Blender was shit until some non-hacktivists got in on the UI and said "ok no, you CAN'T say 'just learn the keyboard shortcut', the 'long way' has to EXIST for there to even BE a keyboard shortcut!" @chirpbirb @hperrin I recently switched to Ivory for the app/frontend, Mastodon is pretty usable now! |
