I once thought about a social media tool that only let you have a maximum of 150 "friends" based on studies showing "maximum effective tribe size" etc. People I know who work(ed) in social media hated the idea

It's more like modeling the social spaces to fit real-life tendencies of how humans function. It appears to be hard for humans to actively track the lives of more people than that - to "care" in a meanuingful way.

Coincidentally, a lot of the long time friends that I made on the internet where from that era and it makes me wonder if there's any connection to that.
