@geobeck @mikefordays @jerry This reminds me of the early days of the internet. Separate communities existed and sometimes leak out and new people are introduced to concepts or ideas they may not have previously held, especially on a world wide scale. Global societal norms are not universal.

IMO Corporate Social Media (Facebook, et al) has become an echo chamber. This is done to boost or retain engagement but it limits the ability of new concepts to enter the discussion.

When people migrate to the fediverse they are now provided the opportunity to experience new concepts and ideas that the corporate world may not entertain.

This does not mean that you have to agree with every new idea you encounter, but knowing that regular people may have different ideas may increase empathy to their lives and experiences.

Generally people agree more then they differ, and if everyone can find that common ground we can move forward as a healthy community.
