@Gargron I guess it would be worthwhile making the case for "non blockchain decentralization" since decentralization is the key sell of mastodon, but that involves getting into the weeds about the nature of authority and ownership, which can get dry and doesn't have the buzz around it that wow blockchain web3 stuff does. I don't envy you that task @Gargron @tomharris maybe it could be a collaborative effort from us AP devs to spread the burden around. Present a sort of united alternative like, "hey look at all these apps that already do all the stuff web3 vaporware promises, and you also don't have to burn down a tree every time you click" |
@tomharris As always, there's non-technical people on the sidelines who could be duped by the web 3 marketing, and there's definitely value in distancing the Mastodon brand from that nonsense explicitly, so it's not entirely pointless to do it.
It's just so hard to find the energy to reiterate points you implicitly understand from years of experience.
