I'm fascinated by the idea of some people cooking on 200 year old cast iron pans.

@Gargron things get old fast, and sometimes they are just as good as when they were made... I just got given some 80 year old shoes, and it only osunds funny when I actually say it, otherwise old stuff can be normal(ish). -ultimate recycling?

@lauraritchie I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Though it would be reuse rather than recycle! A much better option environmentally speaking.

@Gargron been doing some research and there are now companies making new cast iron cookware that’s similar to the old stuff. Better than Lodge. I found a Griswold skillet in my parents kitchen. Must have been my grandmother’s. Anyway plenty of YouTube video reviews of the new better cast iron. They are pricey. I’m leaning towards a Stargazer but haven’t bought one yet.

@Gargron That's how cornbread has been baked in our family for generations, in the same 8 inch cast iron skillet!

@Gargron I've been using a cast iron pan for 2 or 3 years, and have found it to be a better "non-stick" pan, given time to season, than the ones claiming to be that. No bits of non-stick stuff coming off either.

@Gargron
The oldest pan there was 140 years old though?
