Looks like Mastodon's active user base has increased by 110K over the last day. Not bad.

@christian @Gargron Reddit shutdown third party apps on June 30. A lot of people looking for a replacement @1pixy_ @christian @Gargron I doubt Reddit was a reason for people moving to Mastodon, since they're completely different experiences (Lemmy is better as a Reddit replacement). I think it's more that Twitter is unusable right now because of Chief Twit. @mattswift @christian @Gargron you got me there. All my evidence is anecdotal but Mastodon is mentioned in every thread about Reddit emigration @1pixy_ @christian @Gargron Interesting, I stopped reading Reddit entirely after the first blackout started so no idea what people are saying, wonder why they'd suggest Mastodon over Lemmy or /kbin. @mattswift @christian @Gargron theyโre looking for anything as a replacement but Limmy seems to be the most mentioned. Does Limmy have an app? I couldnโt find it in the iOS app store @Gargron My registration did not go smoothly at all so I assumed the crowds are storming the platform.๐ @ReinhardAnton @Gargron Mine involved installing a bit of software on my server and it went fine :) This was the main selling point of Mastodon until Musk shut down Twitter - now the main selling point is "it actually works" :)
@Gargron I had blue-skied the conceit that the Fediverse could sign up a million new users a week, but now it looks like it's happening... @Gargron Twitter and Reddit Iโm sure had a lot to do with it, nice to see more people migrating over. @Gargron@mastodon.social I wish Mastodon wasn't the only option that is visible from the outside and Twitter migrants arrived to Akkomas/Calckeys/etc too @Gargron that's amazing news. Well deserved as well. I am a Newby, I joined today. Loving the app so far. A warm hello. @Gargron Hey Eugen, maybe this is the wrong place to ask, but here goes. A lot of folks seem worried about mastodon.social federating with Meta's Activitypub platform somewhere in the future. Is there anything you can say to ease their minds? @Gargron hell yea! With #twitterdown working as free marketing campaign hopefully the number will increase 10 fold @Gargron double whammy of Twitter and Reddit sucking on the 1st. Guess weโre all over here now @Gargron with every bad dection twitter makes, the fediverse will grow further, and i doubt anyone will go back with that kind of track record @Gargron @Gargron what was the recent news about mastodon user count becoming "sta..." Rate limit exceeded @Gargron thatโs what happens when you literally canโt read tweets. It canโt get more basic than that @Gargron this is my first post on mastodon, i am one of the 110k. its almost like some other site had some catastrophic change... @Gargron insane. That's awesome. Thanks for all you do. And thanks Elon for being an idiot. Lol @Gargron Well, I don't think ANYBODY is positive about THESE changes: https://www.theverge.com/2023/7/1/23781198/twitter-daily-reading-limit-elon-musk-verified-paywall @Gargron The one-two punch of Twitter and Reddit shooting themselves in the feet repeatedly. @Gargron Mastodonโs neighboring country, Twitter, just had a massive disaster. Weโre hoards of refugees streaming across the border. @Gargron create a space equivalent, and it will grow further Thank you 110K users for choosing Mastodon Airlines. A safer and friendlier way to travel the internet @Gargron They mostly left Twitter, I think, for the uncontrolled mess that Melon Dusk is making of it. As well as breaking their own rules they normally ask every user to obey. It has become very erratic, filled with bugs, too. For example, tweets about Ukraine serve inexplainable deboosting.. @Gargron Seems like creators are pissed enough to jump, A lot of prominent ones gone to https://misskey.io and promoting their artwork. Closing to public view and asking for view per tweet is a big people mover. @GodsFavAtheist It's not meant to be. This is a microblogging platform, not a link aggregator. I just came from Twitter. Limit rate on Twitter forcing people to find an alternative. maybe mastodon is the one! @Gargron It's a shame that the amount is not spreading that evenly, which again causes server overload and bad UX. Plenty of "how to join Mastodon" guides out there, but they unfortunately just instruct to use one specific server and often don't plain the concept of the decentralised design. @Gargron With Reddit doing its thing, and the blue bird pooping on its user base... People move elsewhere. |
@Gargron And we around 2K :blobcatgiggle: hm!
