When you really think about it, it's utterly baffling that we've reached a state where the expected norm is that you literally aren't allowed to do some kind of labor (code) in your own time, because it 100% belongs to your employer.

One of the main reasons I'm currently self employed was I just wanted to find a place that would just pay me to program while I was at work. But hard as I tried every place insisted they were also paying me to *not* program while I am *not* at work

Tech cos: Hire self-motivated people. People so passionate about code they program even on their own time. If you look on their Github and don't see open source contributions, don't hire them.
