@jdp23 @dansup @edendestroyer @rysiek i am still waiting for an answer as to how working with Meta could possibly be good for fedi. @ariadne It's the incorrect answers you'd expect: 0) It means ActivityPub will win over ATProto! 1) it'll grow the network! 2) People using Meta will have an onramp to fedi! 3) Meta will make a lot of money, so instance admins will be able to make a living! 4) It's totally different from XMPP because! 5) We should take a "trust but verify" approach, and can always turn them off if they do bad things! 6) they can already scrape all our data anyhow! etc. @dr_a well, @darius has a specific take on this that I don't agree with, but it's something to consider: bra@jdp23@indieweb.social @ariadne @dansup @edendestroyer @dr_a Meta's horrible and they'll corrupt anybody who works with them but I'm actually optimistic about the overall effect on the fediverse. If you look at the fault lines between who's cozying up to Meta and who isn't, a schism between the two factions could be a big plus in a lot of ways. And with luck the whole situation will put a lot more emphasis on consent -- which could align well with new AcitivtyPub server implementations. @jdp23 @ariadne @dansup @edendestroyer @rysiek @jdp23 @ariadne @dansup @edendestroyer @rysiek Sorry for too many ?? I am too Or, more correctly, I'm waiting for someone to explain how they really think the #Meta / #Mastodon / #Fedivese highway is going to be wide open, four lanes in each direction, with no toll booths going either way #Zuckerberg is going to allow people *out* of Mastodon and into his Meta, for sure Does anyone really believe it'll be wide-open travel in the opposite direction? Out of Meta and free into the Fediverse, with no strings? |
And me as well. Thanks very much, @dansup !
