Looks like #Lemmy and #Kbin keep being mentioned together, which to me suggests we might have averted "mastodonization" of the #threadiverse — i.e. a situation where the whole network gets identified with a single piece of software. 🎉

This is the way. :blobcatcool:

@rysiek honestly though, I am still hazy on the difference between the two.

But it is a good thing that it's not just a 1:1 again.

@hook they're just different, independent implementations, with some different features, and different interface. No biggie, nothing magical.

@hook @rysiek the biggest difference I would give between the two is kbin federates nicely with microblog content. kbin posts will show up properly on something like mastodon instead of just being a headline and link like lemmy stuff. also you can view, follow and create microblog content on kbin

if you want to try it out, I'm hosting an instance with open registration at fedi196.gay

@ivy, cool, thanks for explaining. That helps to understand.

Also very kind to offer your instance, but as Reddit was not really my jam, I'm first going to lurk around a bit now and again to see how the format and community develops.

@ivy @hook @rysiek i haven’t been able to see any Lemmy or Kbin posts through mastodon. Not even copying the link directly. I’m possibly doing something wrong :p

if you're able to see this than you've just seen your first kbin post :3

if you want to see posts from a kbin account on your feed, you will need to follow them, otherwise you can check out their home instance to see posts. for example you could go to https://fedi196.gay/u/ivy to see my full account whereas viewing @ivy will only show what your server has logged for my user (which it will only do for posts put out while someone on your server is following my account, or i put out posts that mention someoneone your server)

@rysiek @mastodonmigration Taking good advantage of sudden opportunities presented. 👏👏

@rysiek@mstdn.social It helps that kbin has gained awareness and growth at the same time as lemmy so one doesn't dwarf the other

@rysiek i ‘d be happy if the diaspora could find in their new home something with more form and function to the platform they left behind. Considering it all one mixed bag, one yet more identical marvelous separate but equal sameness whether Mastadon, Lemmy or Kbin , etc, is not going to satisfy.

@rysiek *insert gnu/Linux copypasta but adjusted to kbin/Lemmy*

@rysiek@mstdn.social #Lemmy was what led me to join the #fediverse! I heard of Mastodon before, but didn't felt the need to join as I'm not accustomed to microblogging. I hope the recent spike encourages more users to diversify their social media.
