@dansup I selected 100 posts to import, but only 4 seem to have done so. Do I keep waiting or try again?

It worked fine for me, I moved 64 posts. Curiously, pics posted in 2022 did not appear on the import screen, and I don't have any posts in 2023. Took my export on 07.06.2023. Worth noting that I re-uploaded my export a couple of times and the screen correctly detected the posts I left out.

EDIT: Will update this after I try it out with a new archive.

@dansup @pixelfed just imported my posts! 😁 I did notice my 3 most recent posts from 2022 did not show up in the post selector. Might be because I like to use lots of emojis, and the imported posts didn't seem to like emojis. But, otherwise worked flawlessly!

I was going to build a similar thing for importing Facebook and VK profiles into Smithereen, but that's still far away

@dansup @pixelfed It works. However: Import dialogue showed posts dating back to mid-2015, but everything older didn’t show up at all (should date back to somewhen in 2011). Umlauts didn’t make it, not sure if broken in the import file or the import itself. And I’m hitting the 200 posts limit rather quickly, so everything before 2021 won’t import :/

@dansup @pixelfed The only issue I noticed is that it seems that most of my newer posts (since january 2022) are webp files, which the importer seems to be skipping all together. Older jpgs and mp4s are working fine.

@dansup @pixelfed Went through a couple batches of 100, upload showed only the ones I hadn't selected each time. Nice interface, easy to navigate. Upload page no longer shows photos remaining to process. Been about 30 minutes, and haven't seen any show up i my photo list, but betting it's because the server is working hard. Will keep checking in...

@dansup @pixelfed I'm struggling to get this working with my Chromebook. Does maybe the fact my file has 1900+ posts be causing the issue? Each time I try to upload, my browser hangs.

@dansup @pixelfed I tried it but my import only found 2 posts (the folder from instagram has all my pictures in it, I checked). tried to import those 2 but it still says „processing imported posts“ after a few hours (maybe that’s expected?)

@dansup @pixelfed All in all working pretty good, but some file types from the IG export don't seem to even be processed.

@dansup @pixelfed Also, some Unicode characters in the description, like "Σ", "—", and emojis get converted to other, unrelated characters.

I've also seen someone complain about Cyrillic not being handled properly

@dansup @pixelfed I'm having some trouble with it myself...it seems to have got stuck. I tried importing 100 posts and it basically went to this, and now I can't do anything with it?

If I click Import, I can select the zip but it no longer shows the 100 latest posts that I wanted to import, only older ones. So I can't even 'retry' the latest import. Not sure how to fix or reset it...
