The more you start looking, the more you see, and now I'm seeing lichen everywhere.

I thought the colours of these lichens against the so-red-its-yelling-at-you brick were pretty awesome.

Lovely photo, thanks. Studying lichens was the most interesting aspect of a pilot ecology syllabus we were put on in school back in the 80s (in Ireland). You never stop noticing them once you get hooked! Hereโ€™s a Beeb guide to lichenology: discoverwildlife.com/how-to/id

@Etain18 What a great little guide - thanks for the link! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

@BjornIdle gorgeous! (and the brick looks painted)

@acm_redfox
๐Ÿ˜ƒ Thanks!

Pretty sure it's not painted - there used to be a brickworks close to here that produced lots of bricks of this colour (including the ones on our house).

I have wondered if macro photography exaggerates some colours in certain light, though - particularly if there's only a limited palette in the image anyway. But I'm not an expert!

@BjornIdle @acm_redfox additive colours of light, RGB, as seen on our screens, pop more if they're shown against their complementary colours. The complementary (or opposite on the colour wheel) of red is cyan. I noticed that the lichen has a cyan undertone. I wonder whether that is bringing out the red in contrast?
