@rek That's definitely the biggest thing that's kept me from diving into his works. I saw Your Name and I liked it, but it's hard for me to even know what to watch next when they all kind of look the same. Lots of sunsets and lens flares. It's all really pretty the first time you see it, but I don't think even a serious fan could look at a screenshot and tell you which movie it's from.

Which is a shame because I love animation and when people hype them up as some of the best animated movies ever, I feel like I might be missing out on something, but I just can't get into it.

@montag The aesthetic isn't too bothersome for me, but I get how it can be (i have that same feeling about Wes Anderson films). I may have enjoyed them all a bit more individually if I had put a few months inbetween each. Watching them close together really did taint my enjoyment (esp for Your Name, which i watched last).
That cat in Suzume though, worth a watch just for that haha...~
