Guess I have to use my range for something good for a change. Please read and #RT if the #Fediverse is important to you.

A few days ago, @Gargron, maintainer of #Mastodon and the big instance mastodon.social, wrote a blogpost explaining how the official app will soon feature his instance as a default.

Voices of the community weren't heard. He even doubled-down on it.

We have to prevent this change.
Please Eugen, #DontDoTheElon.

To make it abundantly clear: I do not think Eugen is acting with malevolent intentions. I do however strongly criticize the lack of communication and that what he's currently doing promotes more competition instead of cooperation (even if it's by accident), which the Fediverse should not have.

The reason we're so nice to each other here is because most of us expect the other to be inherently good, or at least have good intentions even when they're angry. Competition alienates this culture.

@Natanox @Wraithe Who’s nice to each other on the fediverse HOA?

Non-honkies aren’t seeing it the HOA literally ran an instance run by and for Black folks off the fediverse *before* Elon cratered twitter.

The HOA threatened to defederate an entire instance unless they kicked a guy off who committed the capital crime of criticizing how mastodon implements β€œDMs”

Then there’s the wide-ranging attacks on anyone pointing out that Twitter as a service had some really nice features.

@Natanox @Wraithe not only is the fediverse run by the worst kind of HOA, namely nerds who in my 30+ years in tech are the most petty, vindictive group that will welcome literal Nazis if they are FOSS Stans, but it acts like somehow, services run by 485849 little elons is an improvement.

The fediverse is anything *but* nice, and it is definitely not kind by any definition.

@Natanox
Leaving the #FDroid #ReproducibleBuilds program does appear to be another step in @Gargron turning his back on the #FOSS community :mastoflushed:

@tetrapyloctomist @Natanox I guess they just want to cut some work and save ressources and as they seem to have never really cared about F-Droid this was kind of predictable. But yeah, kind of a weird move, especially since this could have been solved by simply uploading the APK of their Play Store build somewhere F-Droid could download it for verification...

@jr @tetrapyloctomist It still is an affront towards anyone who cherish F-Droid and Open Source.
