@Theorem_Poem I know what is, but I don't understand - what are the advantages compared to Mastodon or AP.

@san @Theorem_Poem I think the idea is that the protocol is more secure and the levels are more controlled by the user.

Similar to Scuttlebutt protocol, where you have a key and encryption, but also with AP style servers and then larger servers that handle some "what's viral today" type of stuff.

The problem, as some have pointed out, is moderation. And that is really the deal breaker for some people. Some believe pedophiles should have the ability to post on the same board as my children and others believe moderators should block pedophiles.

In AP, you can block a user from your own account, the admin can see an account get a lot of blocks and choose to block them from the entire server. If the account is from a different server, the admin can literally block the entire server from it's AP.

I find that ability tends to make people a bit more cautious of being a-holes, and makes server owners a bit more careful about managing their own users so to ensure their entire server doesn't get blocked

@san however, my guess is that BlueSky will end up being more of a standard for large businesses, simply due to the level of investment and the ability to control the top layer.

Sandro

@coldfish Thanks, but now I'm very stupid for reading the code. :D
Because I'm not a developer.

Sandro

@coldfish you know how there are people? Now mostly right views or left?

Dan Morris

@san There's no political balance. Right now it's a bunch of programmers and tech testers.

However, the "front end", the part that you type into with graphics and pictures, etc... that's actually irrelevant.

BlueSky is really a "protocol", like a way of sharing information, like "email". You wouldn't say "email" has a right or left view, it's just a thing.

Mastodon's ActivityPub is just a way to share information between servers. It's a protocol linking servers like how POP and SMTP links email servers.

Sandro

@coldfish I understand that. I mean, is there a core community formed? For example, Fediverse has a predominantly left-wing audience.

Dan Morris

@san it's too new to have any political leaning.
