@downey It's a have your cake and eat it too proposition. People on Mastodon want the community to grow and be a sustainable entity, but then don't want it to change the features that made it a small, fringe community on the web. Believe it or not, millions of people used the Quote Tweet functionality on Twitter without causing harm, everyday. I believe this feature can 100% be implemented with governance and make the platform better.

@downey The root issue is for many users who came to Mastodon, they may have created accounts, but they didn't stick around. I have tons of friends who did just that. If we just want lots of accounts where people just aren't finding an engaging experience on this platform and leave, I guess we should just keep on trucking.

@jbwharris Low retention rates have been normal for every online (and offline) #community since the beginning of time.

It does not mean something's wrong with the software.
