Speaking personally, it's shocking how much resistance my workplace puts up toward this kind of small expense, while barely batting an eye at, eg, software licensing in the tens of thousands.

@rbos @atomicpoet @mmasnick @fediversenews Oh totally. I saw it while on City Council too. We would bicker about $100 for something but wouldn’t bat an eye at a million dollars. I think it is part of the human condition to haggle. And you can’t haggle as easily over a huge sum for a big identifiable purpose.
