@dansup I disagree. The term circle has been coined by G+ and does not mean group. The way I categorize these things is: List, circle, group. List is subdividing who you follow, circle is subdividing who follows you, group is a mutually agreed upon shared posting space.

@Gargron @dansup I agree with the G+ definition of a circle. We already have the term group for what you're proposing.
Circles are a useful different concept: an easy way for you to direct posts at a certain subset of people.
