@mntmn great! Just to make sure, will it ship from EU ? Asking for customs, taxes and things like that.

ZERO

@mntmn To answer my own question: apparently Crowdsupply takes care of customs and taxes for EU.

mtm

@mntmn sweet! I went with purple; and now I wait…

Esther is studying

@mntmn got a bit worried there for a moment because the email confirmation took a long while but it seems to be ok

minute

@esther uh oh :D but yeah, i think everything should be fine

manu

@mntmn I think you’re the reason the Crowdsupply Basics Project is out of these Ethernet adapters 😂

bard
@mntmn
industrial ethernet cable shows as sold out already when I try to add it to my cart. Is this right?
lina :bisexual_flag:

@mntmn are those prices for crowdsupply only or it will change if i take order directly from you?

minute

@lina we won't offer it ourselves till like end of the year, after fulfilling the crowdfunding orders.

jirka

@mntmn Just have became a supporter 😉

@mntmn So while I do have US accounts I'd prefer to pay with my German credit card. But I guess you only offer US$ as a currency through Crowdsupply? Am I missing something?

manu

@phf You don’t need to use an US account to pay in USD, the credit card institute will just exchange it for you into the other currency. If you’re unsure about the amount, use Google: "999 USD in EUR" to calculate from the current exchange rate.

I could use my German credit card just fine 😊
@mntmn

Peter H. Fröhlich

@c3manu @mntmn I do realize that I can use my German card, but my German bank usually charges extra fees for "international transactions" that I'll avoid with a US card. In any case, I guess it wasn't me missing anything, it's just not set up to charge in Euros. Which is "roundabout" since they are a German company. 😄

manu

@phf Oh okay, I missed the point then. Anyways looks like you figured out "wo es hakt" 😂 @mntmn

in ♥️ with PDA

@mntmn just ordered the basic black 128gb version. Great

Chris

@mntmn

By the looks of it, you are atleast physically compatible with @purism 's BM-818 modem. If so, it would be really interesting to install the mobile stack and be able to use the Pocket Reform as a full on phone replacement.

(Also a backer now!)

@mntmn If you could add information on import customs to Canada (if any) it would be appreciated to help judge the final sticker price. Thanks!

@purpleidea @mntmn I’m curious as well, will this get hit with customs fees? I guess so, eh? it may be quite a lot for an item of this value 😰

minute

@amatecha @purpleidea hmm, normally mouser should pre-clear those things, but you could ask them here: crowdsupply.com/contact/other

i can also ask about this internally.

Tommy Thorn

@mntmn Looks damn slick. I didn't think I wanted one until I saw the version in the video...

Question: why is purple Kailh switch featured but only white and red are options?

minute

@tommythorn well spotted! we tried purpz in a prototype, but they are too light IMHO... you very easily mistype with them. red pro are better in that regard, still light.

Tommy Thorn

@mntmn Thanks for the reply. What's the status of using the Kintex 7 module? (I know it's not the mainstream idea and it might not be ready ... yet).

in ♥️ with PDA

@mntmn will the be a German keyboard or key caps to swap?

Niklaus 'vimja' Hofer

@mntmn Good luck man!

I'll get a second reform2 instead once the new keyboard gets available.

Got the supporter pack though to show my support ;)

ZERO

@mntmn my pleasure! All the thanks go to you and your team for creating this. The least we can do is backing you. Wishing you a great campaign. Now I just have to forget about all that until I actually get it :)

༒ ɐɥɔǝʇɐɯ ʍǝɹpuɐ ༒

@mntmn so sick!!! I’m curious, any plan for staggered key layout in the future? I see you are working on it for MNT Reform, hopeful it can come to Pocket Reform as well! 🤞

ploum

@mntmn : should we add the charger and cable or are there included with the package?

Also: I’ve hard time deciding on the switches ;-)

minute

@ploum charger and cable are not included, but you can use another PD charger if you have one.

minute

@ploum about the switches:
- the clicky ones are more fun, but can be annoying for others
- the linear ones are also very good, and quiet. but not that much fun :D

ploum

@mntmn : I’m already having enough "annoying-for-others" fun with my typewriters. Will get the quiet one ;-)

ploum

@mntmn : the most important thing I hope you have is guide to place fingers on the keyboard (F and J on Qwerty keyboards). Any touch typist cannot live without those ;-)

Olm-e

@ploum or ... in case of life support need, just a handy drop of super-glue or else on the said keys can solve the problem on any keyboard ... (just to say ;p ) @mntmn #hacker #superglue #protip #lifesupport

Blake Smith

@mntmn congrats on the launch! Will the pocket reform require a different custom Linux kernel than the MNT Reform? As a Nix user, I'm trying to figure out how much additional work will be required to bring up the system on a non debian distro, starting from the existing Nix Reform config here: github.com/nix-community/hardw. Is the firmware similar, or different from the full sized laptop?

minute

@blake we will have a unified kernel! firmware is different, though.

dbeley

@mntmn just backed a Pocket Reform in black! Also love the video, straight to the point and highly professionnal.

Exkursion 🇪🇺

@mntmn
Habe mir eben erst ein PPP mit Tastatur geholt wenn ich jetzt ein Gerät (dass ich nicht wirklich brauche) für 1000€ kaufe, steckt mich meine Frau in den Thermomix :blobcatcry:

Amanda
@mntmn I can’t afford one and probably won’t within any reasonable timeframe, but thank you for introducing me to the concept of an Ethernet connector that isn’t absolutely terrible!
Gianguido

@mntmn backed the purple 1TB version! Happy to support open hardware initiatives that also feed my inner geekiness.
It’ll be the perfect companion to my Precursor :-)
Hope the Hyper package comes with stickers as well!

Micheal :cursor:

@mntmn in the future is there potential for a RISC-V compute module to swap in?

Nils 'Kojote' Hitze

@mntmn It looks beautiful but right now I cannot justify the expense. Hope you folks fund it

grimmware

@mntmn I wrote a simple polling scraper so I wouldn’t lose my whole day clicking refresh because I was so excited to get in the Pocket Reform train. Ordered and super excited!

Alina 0xFF

@mntmn fantastic! I'm sad my financial situation doesn't allow me to back. Hoping for many backers

Bascht

@mntmn CONGRATS ON LAUNCHING THE CROWDFUNDING CAMPAIGN! ✨

Madame Aronow

@mntmn it’s so cute! Am I allowed to say it’s cute??

Harvey Sandstrom

@mntmn wow the Harting ix Ethernet port on a computer.
{ bold_move_cotton.gif }
If you can't go with RJ45 then I supoose it's the best option.

Harvey Sandstrom

@mntmn I wonder how this would compare to the Popcorn Pocket which it is becoming increasingly clear I will never take delivery of. :thaenkin: 🙁😢
(So I suppose it's entirely moot. Excuse me while I set fire to this cash.) blog.popcorncomputer.com/

Lars Trieloff

@mntmn @johl ok, ok, I ordered one. Can we fast forward to October now?

sofia ☮️🏴

@mntmn still not possible to buy without credit card 😿?

Aral Balkan

@mntmn Congratulations on the launch. Can’t afford to buy one now but maybe in the future :) Best of luck with the campaign; seems to be going well :)

💕

TC

@mntmn nice! One thing through... the keyboard on these kind of machines is always to compact to include local letters for languages like Danish, making them close to useless (there's an å next to Å and æø next to L on my keyboard). So, please, just one more column of keys..

minute

@for as a frequent writer of german, i just use hyper (like fn)+a,o,u to get umlauts. wouldn't this work in your case?

TC

@mntmn yeah, probably depending on OS. OSX you can long hold A and O. Not really useful for full touch typing speed. Edit: Anyway, i understand why you made this compromise, and I'm probably not the target audience for this

Mirah Image 🐈

@mntmn For those of us who are local, is there any way to back that doesn't result in our devices being shipped to the US then back to Europe?
