@LillyHerself @fediversereport @fediversenews If we can take out Gab via defederation, we can deal with Instagram folks. And my take is that if people there find out what this Fediverse thing is and like it, that’s better for the Fediverse. @Bam @fediversereport @fediversenews I see your reasoning and I hope you are right. I am also thinking of that old thing about one rotten apple in the barrel ruining the whole barrel. @LillyHerself @Bam @fediversereport @fediversenews unfortunately, you have a point…. How can control (?) be reasonable to minimize both bad “apples” and their effects…. @Bam @LillyHerself @fediversereport @fediversenews Like Lilly, I am also worried about the perspective that Meta, Google, etc. would come into the Fediverse. I am not an expert of the technical part. So, how can I block a Meta instance, for example? @Bam, you wrote in a response to Lilly: @Raven47 @LillyHerself @fediversereport @fediversenews @ruud The articles indicate that Meta is planning on joining the Fediverse by implementing ActivityPub with Instagram. So, if that proves to be the case, and they create an instance like insta.gram, you can simply block the instance if you don’t want to deal with it. @Raven47 @LillyHerself @fediversereport @fediversenews @ruud Admittedly, what Meta’s plan is isn’t entirely clear, but it would make sense for Instagram to be the first to implement AP, as it has had its own culture since before Meta acquired it and, for quite some time, IG folks have been able to chart their own course for the platform. Since Pixelfed is the only AP like app in the space, it would be a good way for Meta to dip their toes in the AP water without cannon balling into the pool. |
@Bam @fediversereport @fediversenews For me it would be like "There goes the neighbourhood".
