🥳 @MonaApp now supports non-Mastodon instances 🥳

Which means that Pleroma, Akkoma, Pixelfed, Friendica—and other server software that uses Mastodon’s API—might be supported by @MonaApp!

I have tested this on my own Pleroma instance, atomicpoet.org. It indeed works!

This is such a big deal to me that @MonaApp will probably be my daily driver.

See screenshot.

@MonaApp @fediversenews Just to demonstrate that @MonaApp indeed supports non-Mastodon instances, here’s a message that I posted through @MonaApp to my Pleroma instance.

Have a look for yourself!

@atomicpoet @MonaApp @fediversenews Checking this app out and I really like the design! Thanks for the share!

@atomicpoet @MonaApp @fediversenews Disappontingly @IceCubesApp doesn’t spot that this is an ActivityPub compatible server and instead of showing the post as normal it switches to the internal web browser to display the page generated by your instance. Tried @MonaApp and it does the same.
It’s the same web experience that you can’t interact (like/follow/boost) from that point on.

@MetalSamurai @MonaApp @IceCubesApp @atomicpoet Ice Cubes is one of the worst offenders in the whole “if it’s not Mastodon, then we Mastodon’t” game IME

@atomicpoet @MonaApp Pixelfed? I mean add that and my life is perfect.

@atomicpoet @MonaApp OMG! Downloading for TestFlight now. An actual friendica app? Hell yes!

@todd_smith @MonaApp @fediversenews Which can be downloaded on the App Store. And can be read through a web browser.

And further, you don’t need to fork Mastodon to have a shady instance up and running.

@atomicpoet @MonaApp @fediversenews Quite true.

In any event, I agree that more choice is a good thing, even if it enables a few less-than-optimal use cases.

@atomicpoet @monaapp @fediversenews Thanks for the tip, this app feels nicer. Seems to have some nice quality of life features that other non-Mastodon-supporting apps (Akkoma specifically) are missing.

@atomicpoet @MonaApp @fediversenews @MonaApp has been my daily driver since February on both MacOS and iOS. My favorite due to the large customization options.

@atomicpoet @MonaApp @fediversenews just logged into my Friendica account (venera.social) and works like a dream

@atomicpoet @MonaApp @fediversenews nice! Just tested it out and can confirm it works for Akkoma, Friendica, and Pixelfed. The only other iOS app I’ve found capable of this is Tusker.

@atomicpoet @dansup @MonaApp @fediversenews Fwiw, Mona had supported signing into Pixelfed for several versions already. It may not have been intentional but it worked.

Sam

@atomicpoet @fediversenews I did further testing of all the iOS apps I’ve tried:
Mastoot: works with Friendica and Akkoma but not Pixelfed.
Metatext: works for Akkoma and Pixelfed and partially for Friendica (for some reason the federated timeline won’t load).
Toot!: works with Akkoma, works partially with Pixelfed (only the home timeline is accessible), but does not work with Friendica.
Woolly: works with Pixelfed but not Friendica or Akkoma.
I’ve yet to find one that works with Calckey.

@atomicpoet @MonaApp @fediversenews Can I browse any of Pleroma, Akkoma, Pixelfed, Friendica from Mona without having an account there?

Are there any servers I can add to my Mona Communities that would allow me to browse their “local timeline” - assuming non-Mastodon ActivityPub instances have such a notion.

This could be a great introductory exposure to other Fediverse services from Mastodon with minimal user effort.

@atomicpoet @MonaApp @fediversenews It’s by far one of the better clients generally, so this is really good news.

@atomicpoet @MonaApp @fediversenews I signed into Friendica (venera.social) and Pixelfed (pixelfed.de) to Mona no trubs. Did a couple cross-post tests, profile edits as allowed from Mona. Seems rough but reasonable given the task at hand. Now I just have to *use* these services in addition to Mastodon :)
