The great clown Pagliacci and his son get in a car crash. It's terrible, Pagliacci dies instantly but the son is taken to the hospital. He is about to be operated on when the surgeon says, "I cannot operate on this person -- I am Pagliacci!"

@Craigp what's illegal is Pagliacci, who as far as I know does not have a medical license, performing surgery! Okay I've got a riddle idea. A father and son are part of a heteronormative nuclear family unit, perhaps we don't state this outright but we only imply. Something happens that renders the father presumably irrelevant for the rest of this riddle. The son requires services that, according to mid 20th century American gender norms, would be performed by his father but not his mother. Yet the services are also of a nature that it would be difficult or unethical to perform them for a close relative. @darius after years of following you I have come to the conclusion that you are a platinum grade troll, and there aren’t enough years left in my life to ever reach your level I accept this with relief and gratitude, and wish you well despite the awesome burden you carry > Feeling depressed that his father is on a long business trip and can't coach his blindfolded baseball team where he is the star player, the son hires a local baseball coach in his place through an anonymous message board. All the players have donned their blindfolds when the coach shows up and says, "I cannot coach - this team is my son's and it would be perceived as somewhat nepotistic for the star player to be the coach's son!" @darius A man and his son are on the way to a baseball game when their car is hit by a train. The man is killed instantly but the son is injured so they rush him immediately to the hospital. When the doctor arrives to operate his face goes white and he says "I can't operate on this boy— I died in a car crash twenty minutes ago!" @darius as anyone that actually read Mary Shelley’s work knows, Pagliacci is the name of the _clown car_. The driver has no name, or is simply referred to as Pagliacci’s driver. It is correct that a clown car cannot perform surgery, as it is lacking hands. |
@darius This is eerily close to being a strangely-worded summary of a recent Ask A Manager: https://www.askamanager.org/2023/01/a-dna-test-revealed-the-ceo-is-my-half-brother-and-hes-freaking-out.html
