every time I hear "trans debate" I think https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish_question

I missed this last week while traveling, but just caught up with a great podcast episode featuring @e_urq and @rottenindenmark discussing the current moral panic in America about trans kids. Recommended listening for sure. It’s shocking how bad the state of this “conversation” has gotten among mainstream media outlets

This may be a bit clueless of me, but I feel like it only crystallized for me a few weeks ago just how much worse things had gotten in American media over the last year Like, all the concern trolling and scrupulous "neutrality" on whether trans people have a right to fucking exist at all... there's a direct line between that and laws designed to (in the words of a Daily Wire host this week) "Ban transgenderism entirely". Straight up genocidal shit, the quiet part can now be said out loud

another day another post in the r/mastodon subreddit from someone who says "I entered my password for [server] into [another different server] and it didn't work" every one of these does damage to my soul. I am haunted
NowWeAreAllTom
on the #mastodon subreddit I see lots of things like: "I have an account on server.foo. I was on server.bar and I wanted to follow someone so it prompted me to log in. But it didn't work when I tried to log in with my server.foo account credentials" look, I know it's complicated, especially if you're new, and I don't even really blame the user... it's just that seeing people knowingly entering login credentials for one site into another unfamiliar site, idk what to even say to that

Honestly maybe there needs to be a prompt to make sure you're signing into the right instance before people get their credentials stolen with this

@tom hoping the BBC (which has had the same labelling applied) quickly follows suit...
@tom For real momentum and a shift towards more neutral networks, we need bigger names to leave: CNN, NYtimes, BBC.
@tom Love to see it. Will @NPR start using their Mastodon account again? (Assuming this is actually them?)
