Kinda curious what inspired LifeHacker to publish a "How to Become the Pope" article that includes many gems, but this one is especially great:

@mmasnick I’m here for online salary sites catching strays.

To be fair the Holy See has yet to make a definitive answer about the Sausage Pope of Sheboygan.

@mmasnick The benefits may be good, but the company car is kinda weird.

@mmasnick So how much does Pope make in Holy See?

adb

@mmasnick "Average Pope in the United States"? Aren't there usually zero of those?

Stephen Cook

@adb @mmasnick I think you may be overlooking the Pope of Trash, the venerable John Waters. And there may be others, quietly blessing any passing cardinals but otherwise disregarded. It only takes three to allow calculation of their median salary.

@mmasnick I remember reading when John Paul II died that the only requirements were to be a confirmed Catholic, and male. You don’t even need to be a priest or a cardinal. I should put my hat in next time the position opens up. I’ve got some innovative ideas that could really shake things up.

@Chris @mmasnick Same. My first official act would be to call the staff together and say, "As you supreme pontiff, I command you to immediately take me the vaults and show me the most secret documents there."

Why? Mostly I'm just curious and like to see people nervous. :-)

@mmasnick @akurjata another piece of “AI” generated web filler?

@mmasnick are they counting everyone who has ever received a Discordian Pope card and averaging their incomes?

@mmasnick

It's only that high because of the COL adjustments for those fat cat coastal Popes in LA and NYC.

@mmasnick but what does an above average pope make? :)

@mmasnick

Thanks for sharing, some nice history in that essay. The Curia sounds a lot like the GOP House.

@mmasnick
Does that average include all the erisian popes?

Guess I'm asking on my own behalf.

@mmasnick @dooordah Is there an “above average” Pope in the United States? What does he make?
