Now that #Hometown's new version is out, I want to promote this amazing guide by @mart0 that walks you through the process of creating a Hometown server from scratch.

The level of detail here is astounding. It only covers Hometown v1.0.8 but I see no reason you couldn't easily upgrade to v1.1.0 following the normal upgrade instructions at the end.

> This guide is meant for people who have little past experience with system administration or setting up their own web services. I tried to assume as little prior knowledge as possible.

It is truly useful if you are technically minded but not a sysadmin. Basically if you have messed around on the terminal a bit, the level of detail here should be enough to get going. You can check the "Who are you" section of the article for more.

@darius @mart0 can confirm! worked well for me, despite 0 sysadmin experience in last 10+ years

@darius @mart0 I used this guide to set up a Mastodon+Hometown instance for friends and family and decrease centralization of the Fediverse!
