@RealSolo @Gargron I've been a Mastodon user for 6 years, I do understand how Mastodon works and I *do* wish there were quote toots.

If you wanted to harass someone, then screenshots would be the better way anyways. Even on Twitter people often posted screenshots, if they wrote badly about someone's tweet, to avoid backreferences. Not having quotes does not stop harassment.

@dbrgn @Gargron I absolutely respect your opinion however I stand by my words and opinion. I will note that the majority of quote posts happening on twitter are used in an inflammatory manner or to cause enrage posters. As a twitter user with over 800000 followers (because of who I am - not same handle there) I've witnessed the degradation of Twitter with use of quote postings. Again as stated its my opinion and I respect your opinion on the matter. #Respect

@RealSolo @Gargron thanks for the respectful tone! I mostly replied because "the ones demanding it are all from twitter" is a very generalizing statement that implies that *all* people who want this feature are people that recently migrated over from twitter, and who want mastodon to work just the same. and I disagree with that.

I do see why some people prefer not to have quote toots, so let' agree to disagree 🙂 I think they'd be net-positive for the ecosystem.

I really would like to see evidence for that claim.

I do not deny that quoted tweets are use for inflammatory reasons.
But I do not see any indication that this is the case for the majority of such posts.
