@darius So I loathe Seth Abramson and his brand of self-aggrandizing clout-chasing, and I wouldn't miss his presence for a second.

So I'm not inclined to take his word for why he was banned, which he says was just for posting a link to his Post account.

But what did he get banned for then? Because it's true that it would be problematic if people were banned for just linking an account of theirs elsewhere.

@almodozo We do not know, and in the comments to his article he says he did not bother to find out.

@darius Nobody here has explained why? Even if just to counter Seth's misinformation about it?

Darius Kazemi

@almodozo Nobody has explained why because we do not know why it happened.

However, I am not saying this happened in this case but:

I think it is okay for an administrator of a server to ban someone because they personally do not like them, as long as that is not prohibited by the published rules of their server. Abramson picked a server run by a person volunteering their time, and should not expect a "customer service" style relationship with them.

@almodozo And to be extra clear, I have written extensively on why I believe servers should not have more than about 100 people on them, and in part it is to prevent misunderstandings like this on both sides of the situation.

@darius Oof. Yeah, I'd disagree really. Even on the small, old-school web forum where I coordinated the volunteer moderators for a couple of years, we tried to be conscientious about banning people and removing posts on the basis of rules — not just because, eh, we didn't like 'em.
