Gregory's ServerI want to say that this is not about staying in touch with people over there. I have other ways to do that and Fediverse has been my main social media since 2018. This is about weighing the good I can do over there as a fediverse ambassador versus the various harms of staying there

@darius I've been thinking the same. I realized that outside of one niche group that I haven't figured out how to get over here, 75% of my Twitter usage I want to retain is consuming notification feeds (e.g. National Weather Service, local fire incidents) that I'm sure I could get in here/another consumption tool easily. If more journalists moved over, that would be the other 25% I want to keep. I think my goal will be not to log in again after March 31st. @darius I’m not clear on what would have material impact on the billionaire chaos agent, if anything. Still not convinced he’s not ripping it all apart for the benefit of his banks   @darius send a tweet for me, let it say "if you are reading this, you're supporting a fascist right now. log off" or similar verbiage

@brook my thought is that it's important for me to not dignify Twitter as a canonical namespace. It doesn't permanently delete until 30 days later. I am checking in every 2-3 weeks and then deactivating. It is interesting after being off of it for nearly a month. I recently checked in. It's odd and uncomfortable. There are things trending there that are somehow boosted in my algorithm trend that I have absolutely no interest in; and I do not see these "trends" percolating out to the real world. It really is an artificial trend bubble. @vruz you will notice that I said "it's important for me". Anyone else can do as they please. I am speaking from my experience and in fact was very careful to word my statement in a non prescriptive manner. @darius This is a good way to look at it! ^^ I think it's harder for a lot of folks who have included their Twitter handle in all the media/content they've created over the past few years. So disengaging from an old username isn't as simple for them. :\ @Rheall I object to "isn't as simple for them" because I also did this for ten years of stuff I've made. Totally understand that it's hard though and not for everyone! @darius in all my years of reading twitter, I've written nothing. But I still feel like retaining the tag, idk. Here in the fediverse I might write something.  @darius this makes a lot of sense. I just stopped engaging in the platform and posting since he announced his intent to purchase, but I have been hesitant about deleting my account because of breaking links. but maybe I should accept that those links are effectively broken already... |
@darius I wasn't good at using two similar social media platforms, especially when the other one started to suck in comparison. Left my profile over there, but changed the name, description and URL to lead here. Nowadays only retweeting Mastodon related tweets and that's it. Haven't been missing it one bit.
