🐘Access #Mastodon from Panels.

Vivaldi’s sidebar of icons now integrates Vivaldi Social, our Mastodon instance.

You can also add any Mastodon instance of your choice as a Web Panel to this sidebar for a split-screen view. Easy! 🎉

📌Here's something neat!

Right-click on a Tab Stack and select the pin option from the context menu and free up the space an entire stack uses on the tab bar.

You can now pin Tab Stacks no matter how you prefer to use Tab Stacking - Whether open in Two-level Tab Stacks, Accordion style, or Compact.

Learn and enjoy our glorious tab features here ⬇️

:vivaldi_red: Settings - Colorful vs Monochrome

Settings in Vivaldi 5.6 also got an update with a splash of color 🌈 added to the icons and categories regrouped accordingly.

Click the ⚙️ gear icon (in the bottom left corner by default) to check it out yourself.

If you prefer things more monochrome, enable "Use Monochrome Settings Icons" in Settings > Appearance.

To learn more about Settings in Vivaldi, take a look at this Help page: help.vivaldi.com/desktop/appea.

🔎Search the web in a new way with You.com

Because you prefer to use #privacy friendly #searchengines, we've added a new one!

You.com is now on our list of integrated default search engines.

For now, You.com is only available for Vivaldi users in certain countries including the United States, Germany, the United Kingdoms, and Canada.

@Vivaldi okay okay, so now I can say I yougled it? Yousled? Yourched the web? I feel like search engine alternatives aren't thinking about how important the verb is in every day conversations.

@Vivaldi With this, how do I do open a new tab outside of the pinned stack.
I have Mastodon, Gmail and WhatsApp in my pinned stack and

I want to say... go to Amazon but not have it be part of that tabbed stack?

Vivaldi

@padraig Are you unable to open tabs that aren't in the Tab Stack? You shouldn't be.

Padraig Fahy 🌈

@Vivaldi No no.

I have the pinned tab stack just like your screenshot.

If I press Ctrl+T to open a new tab, I don't want that new tab to be part of the tab stack that I am on.

I want that tab to open in a regular non-stacked tab.

Vivaldi

@padraig Okay, understand what you mean there. 🤔

You could suggest ways to improve tab behavior here. Telling us exactly what you want. The screenshot you've provided there is perfect for it too.

@Vivaldi Cool idea. I'll try it out as soon as it's upgraded.

Krzysiek

@Vivaldi Out of sheer curiosity - did you just add a panel with your instance to the sidebar, or did you do anything else under the hood?

mr.nEJC

@krzysztofdrozdowski it seems they have - @Vivaldi "forces" you to login with @vivaldi.net account - as far as I can see there is no way to login to any other instance ...

Mads

@mr_nejc @krzysztofdrozdowski The default panel is specifically for Vivaldi Social, though you can change it or add another instance. Though yes it's a normal Web Panel, it is not yet a client. Maybe in the future though.

mr.nEJC

@krzysztofdrozdowski @MattEclipsed I see this is mentioned in blogpost:

"While you’ll find Vivaldi Social in the Panel of the browser, you can also add any Mastodon instance of your choice as a Web Panel to this sidebar. By doing so, the website or any Mastodon instance is displayed within the side panel of your browser, creating a split-screen view."

would be helpful to have written somewhere after clicking mastodon icon and before I login to @vivaldi.net ... 🤷‍♂️

Mads

@mr_nejc @krzysztofdrozdowski Aye, I see where you're coming from with that. 😅

@Vivaldi fucking proprietary software released new version?
Jon Tromans

@Vivaldi This is very cool. Is it possible to have the favicon in the panel show how many notifications? Have I missed a setting?

I think there was a bug last version with panel icon notifications but seems to be fixed. Whatsapp & Inoreader working a treat now.

Hello, you have for three years said you'd change a much criticized user register - Can you give an update on the status, it was supposed to start with version 2.7, but it's been very quiet regarding the topic ever since...

help.vivaldi.com/desktop/priva…

We are now not only a few version later, but a few MAJOR versions later. 🫠

Please, I'd like to try out Vivaldi but it's hard to put absolute trust in a closed browser when the company doesn't seem very open.

Toran

@Vivaldi what if you're on more than one instance?

Vivaldi

@torspedia You can always make more web panels for each of them. 🙂

Scientific Frontline

@Vivaldi
One quick question.
If I moved to this server would all my posts be transfer too. (about 1.8K)

Vivaldi

@sflorg No, when you migrate a Mastodon account your previous posts do not transfer.

Scientific Frontline

@Vivaldi That is too bad, I would have loved to be a part of Vivaldi server.

Midnight Eye

@Vivaldi Thats great news, I use the browser since the first day 😊

🇬🇧Daron Brewood

@Vivaldi It's cool, but I wish it supported other instances?

Vivaldi

Hey @tekguru!
Open the instance you want to add to the Panel in a tab , right-click on the web page and select "Add Page to Web Panel" and you're set! :tony_wee:

@Vivaldi I really hope @brave browser will enable something like this for native decentralized social media integration. Also native support for the password manager of your choice would be good like @bitwarden.
In general browsers should have a freedom of choice native integration with all fundamental browser tasks.

BuffaloBill

@Vivaldi I would not call this an Integration. It's just normal usage of a panel. There was no Code Writing needed for this "future", was there? If you want it like that, why don't you guys simply add microsoft.com/de-ch/windows?r= to a panel and whups: "We integrated Windows into Vivaldi - YAY!" Mail is an integration. Mastodon is not.

septer

@Vivaldi I would really, really love to use Vivaldi as my daily browser, I really like all the nifty features, but two things break it for me - first, I do want my browser to be the same on all platforms I use (Linux, Windows, macOS), but when using Vivaldi, my Macbook Pro's batteries just burns trough, especially when playing videos, and second - tab containers, so much easier than "persons"...
