@theexplorographer well when I wrote it most of the stories were super idiotic haha @EposVox A really good article, especially since you make the connection with the "old days of the Internet" when e.g. forums were the central hubs of "the web". Regarding Mastodon I often hear critisism like "ohh, like Twitter but run by reddit mods lol". The internet we know today was built upon forums & communities moderated by volunteers & members of those communities. Were there any black sheep moderators? Of course, but that sorted itself out. If mods went too far, those forums dried out @EposVox and those forums & communities knew that bad moderators could mean that people will leave and not return. So, common rules were agreed upon and respected. And it generally worked. @EposVox Ooh, nice! It might be worth mentioning that the local/federated TLs aren't an "alternative app" thing, they're a built-in thing – the web UI has 'em, too – that the "official" app deliberately removes. @EposVox Also, boosts don't make things show up in local/federated. It just shows up on your followers' home TLs. |
@EposVox Quite a few good stories have been popping up in my Google News feed lately.
