@EposVox A really good article, especially since you make the connection with the "old days of the Internet" when e.g. forums were the central hubs of "the web".

Regarding Mastodon I often hear critisism like "ohh, like Twitter but run by reddit mods lol". The internet we know today was built upon forums & communities moderated by volunteers & members of those communities.

Were there any black sheep moderators? Of course, but that sorted itself out. If mods went too far, those forums dried out

@EposVox and those forums & communities knew that bad moderators could mean that people will leave and not return. So, common rules were agreed upon and respected. And it generally worked.
