We’re finishing up an overhaul of the sign-up experience in our iOS and Android apps, hopefully it can go live next week, I know the Android app hasn’t had a public release for a while but the beta already has editing and upload progress and a bunch of other nice things. A lot more in the pipeline for the future.

@Gargron

Thanks, Eugen.

Y'all are great! I love this place. We're having a blast being fun and friendly.

What a Joy!

@Gargron is it possible to have a paid version of the Android app or enable subscription through Google pay?

@Gargron that's cool, my android app is going live this weekend, but good luck with your thing next week

@Gargron Why do people use apps? I just go to the url on my phone. Why are apps better?

@Gargron Thank you so much for your effort. <3

@Gargron tbh I just want giphy integration, editing and easy access to local and federated timelines. If that comes in an update I will abandon Tusky, despite how much I will miss that the button says Toot and not publish.

@Gargron Great work! I got on mastodon a week ago and having the official app (iOS) ready and waiting (and collecting no data) made downloading and having a go a very easy experience. Unlike other apps that demand a kilo of flesh prior to all else.

Željko Crnjaković

@Gargron Are you adding multiple feeds to the app? Only has home feed while most of the rest have local and federated too?

@Gargron

Great news! Keep up the good work.

I've been using @Tusky but it's so limited. No way to view #trending posts, and no way to view followings/followers.

Very bad for starter accounts looking for online engagement, without already having a large network.

@Gargron I am sooo looking forward to the update! Thanks!

@Gargron does it support toot language changing and refocusing pics? :02lurk2:
and if I'm on Glitch-soc, will it render the markdown and let me send markdowned toots like Tusky does?

@Gargron Do you plan to add "integrated" translation, leke Fedilab app ? If so, it would be near perfect.

Andrew

@Gargron great, looking forward to the update. Love the whole Mastodon system.

@Gargron

Do you have a roadmap regarding "Mastodon for Android" on F-Droid?

@Gargron amazing to see the iOS app 2nd on the app store in social networking for a brief moment!

@Gargron Thanks … so far, trying to be two places is a bit exhausting though …

@Gargron I’ve had several (let’s call them rather virtuous) people chide me for not using alt text for some images here. However, my iOS app doesn’t always make the alt text option visible when adding an image (which I have to explain each time to get my neck off the chopping block). Could you possibly check into that as well.

@Gargron Thank you for your volunteer time on this.

@Gargron great work! The sign up process was a bit confusing to me until I channeled my 1990s self back when I was choosing IRC servers and USENET groups 😃

@Gargron awesome 😊 it was difficult to get in with the Android app initially since it kept timing out.

@Gargron Please implement the features that @megalodon has.

The android app is lacking many important features like favorites and the federated timeline.

And both apps seem to be missing a banner if someone has moved their accounts...

@Gargron it looks like freedom of speech has turned into hatred of speech.... just sayin

@Gargron

My only two issues with the Mastodon app on Android are:

Notifications not showing in the app, forcing me to constantly remember to click the bell to see if I'm missing any replies

No built in GIF repository, forcing me to download them offsite if I want to use them.

Not sure if these are addressed in the new update or not, but just thought I'd share.

@Tusky

That's fantastic. I'm always excited to see further improvements.

I'm sure you both overloaded with requests, but I think would be great, is being able to follow more than one instance at a time.

I'm good on my own instance, but would also like follow everything happening ONLY in an infosec instance without needing to sign up, which is different than following federated.

I think that'd make it smoother to transition from Twitter to Mastodon.

@Gargron Thanks again to you & all who make this a happening place 👍👍👍👍

@Gargron i couldn't get through it when I tried which sucks.

Jonathan Irvin

@Gargron it’s exciting to see this project take shape with such renewed interest 🤘 I feel somewhat ashamed Indidnt get it going sooner.

Viola Asri

@Gargron can you also incorporate a private messenger please???

Piotr Kania

@Gargron Is there any Mastodon client for android, where there is - as in the web version - a translation function via DeepL, under each post?

Kunikos

@Gargron An honest question. There seems to be a very large number of photographs being published; is this an issue for those stalwarts who manage the instances?

Jon Marnock :maybe_verified:

@Gargron It’d be nice if the iOS app used settings from the server and also let you edit posts.

Charles Jenkins

@Gargron Hey, I have the official Mastodon app for iOS. Is that what you’re talking about? I see lots of posts reminding ppl to “Use CWs,” but I can’t figure out how on the app. Can you advise me?

Word of Mouth :emacs:

@Gargron
Consider a "Choose for Me" button -- maybe a wizard that polls interests -- for those who are confused by instances. My sister gets username and password. She doesn't get "instance". I tried mansplaining it. She doesn't care.

@Gargron thank you for doing an astounding job! 🙌🏻

@Gargron hi Eugen. I work for the Scandinavian broadcaster TV4. Trying to get a hold of you for a short interview in Berlin. Can we connect?
