@timsmalley Just spent a few minutes reading about Nature First - thanks for the pointer! Looks like there’s plenty of woodlands with public footpaths around Heathersage so I’ll definitely go check out the area next time I’m in the Peaks, cheers 😄 @timsmalley @rbeagrie very beautiful photos. Putting nature first is a tricky principle for artists & photographers. We want to record these places, but when we show our work, it encourages others to visit. SSSI on Dartmoor are a case in point. It’s sad, but I see no alternative than to not visit or share images. Keeping quiet for nature. @devonlass it's always a predicament. I tend to be happy to disclose locations that are vast and can take a large increase in footfall, that could come from posting online. That said, I never like to reveal an exact location/coordinate for a particular photo. For smaller locations, I prefer to not give a location, but I am happy to reference a general area. A part of the fun of photography for me is discovery. Finding places that have potential, and then turning that potential into photos. |
@rbeagrie Hi Rob, I can't help with the exact location as I follow the Nature First principles. I have seen too much damage done at popular spots... for example, at the base of Buachaille Etive Mor with the waterfall in front of it (perhaps the most photographed spot in the UK), where the peat moorland flora has been completely destroyed and turned into a peat bog.
It's a gorge not far from Hathersage and on weekends there is usually an ice cream van in the roadside parking area.
