Finally added a "Server Rule" to Friend Camp.

It's a useful feature for a big server but a silly one for a small, close-knit, high-trust community.

Screenshot of the "Server rules" admin page for Friend Camp. First is a description of what a server rule is, provided by the admin panel:

"While most claim to have read and agree to the terms of service, usually people do not read through until after a problem arises. Make it easier to see your server's rules at a glance by providing them in a flat bullet point list. Try to keep individual rules short and simple, but try not to split them up into many separate items either."

Next is the only rule set on the server:

"1. Please read the ENTIRE code of conduct. It's like 500 words. I believe in you!!!"

@darius For some reason, this screenshot makes me ponder running a Mao or Nomic game on Mastodon.

@darius Something new I just put in place: a "secret word" in the code of conduct that you have to report back to me with, to "prove" that you read it. before I send an invite. idk. too silly for a CoC? too obnoxious of a requirement? maybe, I'm just trying stuff and seeing what works

@darius For the people who need bright bullet point TL;DRs of a CoC. I kind of appreciate that having been far too slow in my research for a proper CoC it at least gives me a place to post some of the important bits, the Wheaton Rule, the Golden Rule, the Krekel Rule … One day I will link to a proper CoC too, but as an invite-only server with one real active user it hasn’t felt a priority.

@darius Right now the only rule in Argon City is "don't be a dick".

If I ever have to expand that very far, I think there might be a bigger problem.

@sysop do you have a code of conduct though? My implied point here is that people should read the whole code of conduct and if you're small enough you can make them do that. "Don't be a dick" is not sufficient for servers of more than 1 person

@darius
I'm new around the fediverse. Do you know of any local or regional Oregon or PNW instances?
