 With technology, there is always the question of irreducible complexity. You cannot use the Internet responsibly without navigating different sites. If too many ppl are insulated from that "cryptic" reality, the structure will come crashing down. Ppl who demand that fleets of powerful machines answer their whims under those conditions are running with knives that are pointed in all directions. It isn't elitism. Its expecting drivers to know what road signs mean before they step on the gas. #internetliteracy @tasket @Gargron โKnow what server you want to join before you think of signing upโ? You should start a restaurant telling people they canโt come if they have any questions because the menu/server list is *perfect* and no one could ever be confused because itโs a *perfect* list of servers. ๐ @rootadmin @tasket Am I allowed to go to restaurant and see the menu or can I only enter if I know the menu perfectly beforehand and know what I want? The question is more of are you allowed to ask for sushi when you're in a burger joint? Both places served food, but only you who knows what you want to eat (post), others can only give suggestions (list of servers). Seems counterproductive if you want marginally interested visitors to join. Ah, you're under the impression that all server hosts cares about growing their "userbase". That's not a thing here. Server host allows someone into their server to have quality conversations and to have that, some boundaries needs to be agreed upon. The growth that a decentralised network preferred would be when people host their own server, not joining someone else's. Otherwise, it'll be just replicating the old platform. |

@tasket @Gargron Precisely the kind of elitism that doesnโt help. โPick a serverโ isnโt some complex feature that the basic minds who wish to join canโt understand. Itโs too dangerous to help them out with a basic default server in the first place?
