The new Revolver mix is, thus far, Astounding.
Revolver is probably the best Beatles album, IMO, and it's like they scraped away a bunch of yellowed varnish and replaced it with something new and shiny.
It's never sounded this good.

I haven't been this excited about a beatles record since 2008 when I picked up a mono copy of Pepper and magical mystery tour at a used book store in Marietta, GA for $2 and listened to them for an entire weekend. It's a real stereo mix. Like, one that people actually spent time on. It's amazing. @ajroach42 Giving it a listen, and these are sounding pretty damn good. The clarify and separation are astounding. Mono mixes are very indistinct & lacking treble in comparison -- though this could be more about mastering for vinyl, which doesn't have the range of digital. Seems like they pumped up the loudness, which I don't love. And some songs (Taxman) have the bass too high in the mix IMO. @ajroach42 Last christmas I nicked Revolver and Sgt. Peppers from my dad's collection :-). @ajroach42 you are about the only person on the planet who could convince me to listen to a Beatles album this weekend, dammit |
I own mono and stereo US and UK copies of this record.
Probably five or six of each US variant, and at least one of each of the major UK variants.
I know this album.
I've never heard it like this.
